Forthcoming
With the current popularity of the BBC series Midwives set in the East End of London in the 1950s we are very pleased to be publishing Rose MacFarlane's Naked Nurse: My life in nursing (ISBN 978-0-9571686-0-2 .mobi/Kindle) in e-book on 1 April. This is a heartfelt, thoughtful book in which the author charts her life from the late 1940s in a large, boisterous family in Derbyshire and Cornwall. She trained in nursing at the prestigious Sheffield Royal, in midwifery to Part One in London's East End and in family planning in London. She was a UNA Volunteer for a year in a Jordan hospital during the Six-Day War. She was acting matron at the age of 22. The book ends in Kent in the early 1980s when Rose was about to establish a national charity for pain management.
"In my day nurse training was tyranical and of a very high standard compared with today," Rose says. "It wasn't necessarily better for nurses or patients." Read the book - you will laugh sometimes and want to cry at others. The book is full of anecdote and information.
There will be a special launch promotion on Naked Nurse: My life in nursing!
